The statistics about prostate cancer, both the good and the not so good, are equally startling: One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime; if it’s caught early, 95 per cent of cases can be treated successfully.
Because of both its prevalence and its potential for a positive outcome among men—a good number of our team members and our customers—last year Kal Tire decided to promote prostate health in stores across Canada.
“Kal Tire is committed to the health and safety of our team members, our customers and the people who live in the communities where we do business,” says Kevin McCarty, corporate social responsibility coordinator, Kal Tire. “And that’s what led to us supporting prostate cancer awareness, research and care across Canada.”
As part of prostate cancer awareness month, throughout September, Kal Tire will again be doing its part through:

- The Kal Tire Times, a complimentary newspaper provided in store lounges
- Kal Tire’s internal health and safety newsletter, where a handful of team members share their prostate cancer experiences

“Our key message for this campaign is that men need to be proactive in getting screened for prostate cancer because 95 per cent of prostate cancer cases can be treated successfully if caught early,” says McCarty.
Kal Tire has also committed funds to support prostate cancer research and treatment.
