Committed to improving our communities and the environment.
Kal Tire fosters community-focused recycling initiatives. At our stores across Canada, drivers can drop off scrap tires, which are recycled into products like rubber mats and playground surfaces. Collecting over 900,000 kg of scrap tires annually, we’re proud to contribute to provincial tire stewardship programs and reduce waste on a massive scale—equivalent to 57 times the height of Mount Everest.
We help commercial truck and mining customers extend the life of their tires and reduce their carbon footprint by applying a new tread to the casing of used tires. Each time we retread a commercial truck tire, we save almost 57 liters of oil compared to manufacturing a new tire. This environmentally friendly practice also reduces the amount of virgin materials required to manufacture a tire (rubber, steel and carbon black).
Through significant investments in closed-loop recycling and innovative technologies, we’re solving one of the industry’s greatest challenges: recycling ultra-class mining tires. Our state-of-the-art thermal conversion facility reclaims raw materials from scrap tires, while our proprietary, chemical-free devulcanization technology—developed in partnership with the University of Waterloo—creates high-quality rubber compounds for retread applications.
Together, we’re building a circular economy and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
We’re working hard to support tire recycling initiatives and help turn scrap tires into enhanced community infrastructure.
