Shop tires

My experience with the Carlaw Avenue, Toronto Kaltire store

The tires seem fine. The service was wonky. I bought new winter tires from Kaltire and had them installed at their Carlaw Avenue shop in Toronto. WIthin a couple of days, the front right was flat. This was very inconvenient for me as I was planning a long-distance trip business within 48 hours. I live very close to the store, and after a couple of hours of sourcing an air pump and enlisting the help of a friend, we managed to inflate sufficiently to get the store. Instead of admitting that they had been negligent on the instal, they said that the tire deflated due to a change in the temperature. I was smart enough to take a picture of the totally flat tire -- and they could no longer claim that it was just a function of the temperature drop (which only affects tire pressure by 5 to 10%. Even after admitting that, they still said they couldn't guarantee addressing the problem in the next 48 hours. A few hours after I left it, they called to say that the tire was fine -- turns out they forgot to tighten the valve core! So they wasted half a day of my time and caused me some stress over my trip because they made a rookie mistake. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of my troubles with Kaltire. A week later I realized that the hub over on the same tire was missing! So initially I thought that was because they put it back on improperly and that it had come off while driving. So I went back to Kaltire, and guess what? They had the missing hub cover in the office! So they never put it back on at all after tightening the valve core. Their customer service people are very nice, but the shop is incompetent. If you have options, go somewhere else.

Solid tyre

Had these put on on November 1st and a week later the temperature dropped, a mini snow dump, icy mornings, and, more recently, a good amount of west coast rain.

I have a very high torque vehicle and these tyres never lost traction or hydroplaned. Cornering grip is excellent with little tire hum on the highway.

It’s not going to allow you to break the laws of physics if you’re going too fast but compared to the x-ice / sottozeros I’ve had in the past these have performed great.

I cannot comment on how these work in deeper snow

Looking forward to trying these in edmonton winter weather. I drove in dry and rain so far and excellent tires, amazing grip. Low noise.
