MARTENSVILLE LIONS CLUB PARK

Martensville is home to the largest park in Canada made with recycled rubber surface

Martensville, Saskatchewan, is now home to the largest playground in the country made with rubber surfacing. Through Kal’s RePlay Fund, Kal Tire donated $20,000 to partially fund the cost of poured-in rubber surface that used 100,000 kg of rubber, or nearly 10,000 passenger tires.

In addition to the recycled tire surface, Shercom CARES and NIKE Grind also supported this project and created a unique, slip-resistant topcoat. Made from 26,000 recycled shoe soles, this coloured surface sits on top of the recycled tire surface and adds a unique flair while reducing the risk of moss and algae. The Lions Mobility Park also features a spray pool, playground, benches and a gazebo.

The city of Martensville is the first city in Canada to be tire and shoe neutral, that means the playground surface has recycled enough material to offset the footprint of every member in the city for their lifetime.

“The whole community of Martensville came out to celebrate with us at the Grand Opening of the Martensville Lions Accessibility Playground with SHERPLAY and Playtop with Nike Grind. We want to thank everyone who partnered with us to make this community playground come to life! Special shout out to the Martensville Lions Club International and Kal Tire without whom this incredible feat would not have been possible.”
