The Arctic Claw XSI is true to its name thanks to its studdable capability and good to excellent scoring on ice, snow and slush in our independent tests. This affordable winter tire for passenger vehicles uses deep lateral and notched circumferential grooves to push water, snow and slush out of its path while employing a D-Square sipe technology for winter traction. Resistance to hydroplaning is excellent, and the Arctic Claw XSI also scores with top marks when it comes to handling in slush, and Kal Tire brings it to you exclusively.

?Summer vs Winter Tests

BRAKING

We varied our approach speeds by driving surface and by season for two reasons. First, this represents how most Canadians would normally drive on that surface in each season. Second, testing in both seasons provides an indication of how a tire's performance will be affected by road temperature.

CORNERING

To understand how road surface temperatures affect the cornering performance of a tire, our cornering tests are completed in both summer conditions (dry and wet pavement, and gravel roads) and winter conditions (dry, wet and icy pavement). Please note that slush is also tested but completed in a specific slush cornering test..

?Independent & Objective Testing

The independent tire testers conducted extensive tests to determine how the tires in our core line-up perform in a range of conditions in both summer and winter. To maintain neutrality, no driver knew the specifics of the tires they were testing each time. All results were analyzed and processed by the testing group and then provided to Kal Tire for sharing with our customers.

Nokian Tires

Lots more winter to come in Northern Alberta but so far these tires are excellent! The tires are studded and there is a definite difference from plain winter tires. I have a commute of 35 minutes through flat and steep terrain, from rural to city and the tires have given me more peace of mind driving. Luis at the Grande Prairie location made an excellent call suggesting these tires to my husband. Couldn't be happier :)

Good So Far But Soft

Drove a lot of dirt and freshly-graded roads before winter conditions after putting these tires on. Noticed a bit of wear before I was expecting it.
First snow, the tire reaction was as good as I could have expected. No snow sticking, braking was very good. Impressive on slick, snow-covered forestry roads.
For regular consumers, I would recommend waiting as long as possible to put these on and take them off early.
Great winters, but not for harder gravel or dry dirt road and pavement driving.
